10 reasons you should be eating more sushi

1. Sushi contains omega 3 fatty acids.

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids, ones that we don’t consume enough of in our modern diet. Think of sushi as a supplement, providing these much needed “good” fats, particularly when the other choices contain fats that don’t support your cardiovascular system.

As far as restaurants go, do you want something bathed in butter or other oils? Not really if you are concerned about your body. Sushi is a lean choice for lunch or dinner, high in protein and nutrients, sushi is a great choice.

3. Sushi is art.

While any foods may be plated artistically, sushi is a true work of art. Usually made by trained chefs, each item is simple, yet refined, and some chefs take great pride in their presentation, making beautiful rolls, decorative garnishes, and incorporating items that compliment the food’s look and taste. There are so many different options (kinds of fish, types of rolls, vegetarian and even cooked) each time you go our for sushi that you will never get bored. Want to try something new? Ask the sushi chef if he has anything special that day. Do you see a special you’ve never had before, like flounder roe? Give it a try, you may be surprised. Or even if you stick to the standard fare, there are so many different kinds of fish, and so many ways to prepare them that a sushi meal never needs to be the same thing twice.

6. Sushi is a new culture.

Sushi is a great way for westerners to explore Japanese culture, as this art form that was perfected in Japan (and even re-thought in Western countries). The Japanese see art in simplicity, and sushi represents this very well. The fusion of East and West has added some eccentricities, but the underlying creativity of Japanese culture still sines.

7. Sushi is portable.

Sushi can be eaten in a restaurant, but is also available as take-out or in many reputable grocery stores. Have yourself a sushi picnic.

8. Sushi is a good conversation starter.

Whether you are dining with close friends, or new people, the items on your plate are always good for conversation. A fish you’ve never tried, the method of cutting a particular item, or the presentation of a roll are all reasons to keep the conversation flowing.

9. Sushi can be made at home.

If you want to make sushi at home, it is inexpensive and actually not difficult. Have a sushi making dinner party and impress and entertain your friends. You would also be surprised at how much less expensive it is to make mounds of sushi by purchasing the fish and other items yourself instead of buying your sushi or sashimi pre-made at a restaurant.

Serve sushi at your next cocktail or dinner party before you sit down. It is beautiful, creative, and if done right, not too filling, so it’s a perfect and creative way to have a treat with your cocktail before dinner.
